Freight from Finland to Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is one of our regular lanes. We ship air freight from Helsinki Airport to Baku, typically in 1–3 days, connecting in hubs such as Istanbul. For larger cargo we arrange road transport or container transport by sea and rail through Turkey or Georgia. We collect anywhere in Finland, file the export declaration, check the goods against EU export rules and hand over to our partner in Baku for import clearance and delivery.

Export from Finland

A shipment to Azerbaijan leaves the EU, so it needs an export declaration. Send us the commercial invoice with HS code, value and Incoterm, the packing list, your EORI number and any export licence for dual-use goods. Because the EU watches for goods being re-exported to Russia, we check the HS code and end use before booking, and many sales contracts must include the “no re-export to Russia” clause.

Import in Azerbaijan

The consignee’s broker files the electronic import declaration with Azerbaijani customs. The consignee’s name, address and tax number (VÖEN) must match on the invoice and the waybill. Food, medicines, cosmetics and some technical goods need certificates or permits in Azerbaijan, and a certificate of origin is often requested. Tell us early, and we can arrange it in Finland.

Common problems on the Azerbaijan lane, and how we avoid them

  1. Different consignee details on the invoice and the waybill: clearance in Baku is delayed. We match them before booking.
  2. Missing certificate for regulated goods: the goods wait in customs. We ask the buyer to confirm in advance.
  3. Questions from Finnish Customs about end use: the export is held. We prepare the end-use information with you.
  4. Heavy cargo booked by air when road would do: the price is higher than needed. We compare air, road and sea-rail in the quote.

How it works

  1. Send the pickup address, destination, goods description with HS code, dimensions, weights and Incoterm.
  2. You get a price, routing and transit time by air and, for larger cargo, by land.
  3. We collect the goods and clear export in Finland.
  4. You get the AWB or other tracking number.
  5. Our partner clears import in Azerbaijan and delivers.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does air freight from Finland to Azerbaijan take?

Typically 1–3 days to Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport (GYD), connecting in a hub such as Istanbul. The time depends on flight capacity and on the documents being ready.

Can I send heavy cargo to Azerbaijan by land or sea?

Yes. Trucks run through Central Europe and Turkey to Georgia and on to Azerbaijan, and containers go by sea to the Georgian Black Sea ports of Poti or Batumi and on by rail to Baku. We confirm the route and time in the quote.

What does the consignee in Azerbaijan need?

A registered importer with a tax number (VÖEN), shown on the invoice and the waybill. Some goods, such as food, medicines and certain technical products, need a certificate or permit in Azerbaijan, which the buyer arranges before the goods arrive.

Are exports to Azerbaijan checked for sanctions?

Finnish Customs checks exports to the Caucasus for goods that could be re-exported to Russia. For many products the sales contract must ban re-export to Russia. Clear documents on the goods and the end user prevent delays.
