When do companies change forwarder?
- The forwarder has closed or stopped a service. Shipments and customs clearances need a new handler quickly.
- Replies are slow. A quote takes days, or nobody knows where the goods are.
- Prices are unclear. Invoices contain charges you did not expect.
- Your needs have changed. New countries, dangerous goods, temperature-controlled cargo or urgent spare parts.
What moves over, and what stays the same
| Item | What happens |
|---|---|
| EORI number | Stays the same. It belongs to your company. |
| Customs authorisation | You give us a new customs representation authorisation. Without it we cannot file declarations in your name. |
| Open shipments | We take over shipments that have not yet been cleared, if the carrier or terminal releases them to us. |
| Customs decisions and archive | Your earlier declarations are available to you from Finnish Customs. Ask your old forwarder for copies of the documents they hold. |
| Suppliers abroad | We tell them whom to contact for bookings, or you forward our contact details. |
| Recurring lanes | We agree prices and booking routines for your regular routes. |
How the switch works
- Send us your company details, EORI number and a short description of your shipments: what, from where, how often.
- We send a quote within one hour on working days when all details are provided.
- You give us a customs representation authorisation.
- For goods already on their way or waiting at a terminal, send the air waybill or bill of lading number. We check with the carrier what is needed for release.
- We clear and deliver the open shipments, then handle new bookings from your suppliers.
Goods waiting at the airport or port
If your goods have arrived but your forwarder no longer handles them, they usually stay in temporary storage at the airline’s handling agent or the port terminal. Storage charges start after the free time, and customs sets a time limit for declaring the goods. Send us the air waybill or bill of lading number, the invoice and the packing list as soon as possible. We find out what the carrier needs for release, for example a release note or the original bill of lading, and file the import declaration for you.
