On-board courier (OBC): ultra-fast and critical shipments

When a shipment cannot wait for cargo cut-off times, an on-board courier takes it on the next suitable passenger flight and hands it over in person at destination. We use OBC for urgent and critical shipments: spare parts that stop production or an aircraft, samples, documents and valuable goods that need someone responsible for them the whole way. Our team works on site at Helsinki Airport every working day, and urgent requests are answered quickly.

When is an on-board courier the right choice?

  • Production or aircraft stopped: a missing part costs more per hour than the courier does. For aircraft parts see AOG air freight.
  • Cut-off times would cost a day: the courier goes on the next passenger flight instead of waiting for the next cargo departure.
  • Critical and high-value shipments: documents, prototypes, samples and valuable goods that need one responsible person and an unbroken chain from pickup to handover.

How it works

  1. You send the shipment details and the deadline.
  2. We plan the flights and the courier and confirm the delivery time and price.
  3. The courier collects the shipment, handles check-in and export formalities and flies with it.
  4. At destination the courier clears the shipment where needed and hands it over in person. You get a delivery confirmation.

Other urgent options

When a shipment is too large for baggage, we book it as priority air cargo on the first suitable flight or arrange a charter. Air freight typically takes 1–3 days; see air freight.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is an on-board courier?

A person who carries your shipment with them on a scheduled passenger flight, as checked or hand baggage, and delivers it to the recipient in person. The shipment is never left with a third party along the way.

How fast is it?

Often the same or the next day, depending on flight connections. We tell you the planned flights and the delivery time before you confirm.

What can an on-board courier carry?

Small and medium-sized shipments that fit airline baggage rules: spare parts, samples, documents, electronics and other valuable or time-critical goods. Dangerous goods and some items are restricted; we check this before booking.

Who is responsible for the shipment?

The courier keeps the shipment with them from pickup to handover and reports each step. You get confirmation when it is delivered. Cargo insurance can be arranged separately.
