How the price is calculated
FCL is priced per container (20 ft, 40 ft, 40 ft HC) and LCL per revenue tonne (W/M). Carrier surcharges, terminal charges in Finland and the US, container positioning or terminal loading, Finnish export clearance, US import clearance and delivery are added. US duties and fees such as the Merchandise Processing Fee and Harbor Maintenance Fee apply if your Incoterm makes them yours. US import duties changed several times in 2025–2026, so we check the current rate by commodity code before shipping.
Documents and customs
- Commercial invoice and packing list
- EU export declaration and the export confirmation, which proves the sale is VAT-free
- Bill of lading or sea waybill
- VGM (verified gross mass)
- ISF data (Importer Security Filing, “10+2”): the buyer or its agent files it with US Customs at least 24 hours before loading; we supply the shipment data
- Product requirements, such as FDA registration and prior notice for food
- ISPM 15 marked wood packaging
Common problems on the US lane
- Late ISF: US Customs can fine and hold the container. We send ISF data to the consignee’s agent right after booking.
- No importer arranged: the consignee needs a US customs broker and a customs bond. Agree who is Importer of Record before shipping.
- Wood packaging without ISPM 15 marks: the US sends unmarked wood packaging back. Use marked pallets and crates.
- Additional duties: since 2025 the US has applied additional duties, including on the steel and aluminium content of products (Section 232). They can hit machinery and metal goods, so check before quoting DDP.
- Agency rules: food, cosmetics and medical devices need FDA data before shipping.
