Finnair's Helsinki–Melbourne cargo route starts, with limits on temperature-controlled cargo

Finnair's daily Helsinki–Bangkok–Melbourne flights start on 25 October 2026. At launch, pharma and perishables are not accepted as through cargo between Helsinki and Melbourne.

Finnair’s daily Helsinki–Bangkok–Melbourne service starts on 25 October 2026. It is the airline’s first route to Australia and runs all year with Airbus A350 aircraft.

  • Schedule: AY145 leaves Helsinki at 01:15 and lands in Melbourne at 07:20 the next day, after a stop of just under two hours in Bangkok. The return flight AY146 reaches Helsinki at 06:00.
  • Capacity: about 23 tonnes or 95 cubic metres of belly space per flight, depending on the day.
  • Restriction: at launch, pharmaceuticals, perishables and other temperature-sensitive shipments are not accepted as through cargo between Helsinki and Melbourne. They can still be booked on the Helsinki–Bangkok and Bangkok–Melbourne sectors separately.

Finnair is mapping temperatures along the route, including the Bangkok stop, and will review the restriction when the assessment is complete. It has not announced an end date.

What this means for shippers

General cargo, spare parts and samples can now fly from Finland to Melbourne with one stop on one carrier. For temperature-controlled goods to Australia, plan another routing for now. Ask us for a quote and we will compare the options.
