Container rates from Asia to Europe have turned upward after 13 consecutive weeks of decline. Drewry’s World Container Index rose 3% to $4,485 per 40-foot container on 15 October 2026.
- Shanghai–Rotterdam: $3,522 per 40 ft, up 6% in a week.
- Shanghai–Genoa: $3,945 per 40 ft, up 7%.
- Blank sailings: carriers cancelled six Asia–Europe sailings this week but have announced only two for next week.
Carriers are aiming for FAK rates of $4,500–4,800 per 40 ft from 19 October. Drewry doubts the increase will hold, because ships returning to the Suez Canal route add capacity. It expects Asia–Europe rates to stay stable next week.
What this means for shippers
If you import from China or elsewhere in Asia to Finland, ask for a quote during October, as rates can move from week to week. Sea rates are usually valid for a specific sailing, so confirm the booking once the price suits you. We compare sea, rail and air options for every shipment.
